21. Automated analysis of fetal cardiac function : a new approach based on tissue Doppler imaging
Sammanfattning : The heart is a central organ in fetal adaptation to various hemodynamic insults and it is possible that subtle changes caused by complications such as hypoxia and anemia could manifest themselves early as altered fetal cardiac function. Color tissue Doppler imaging (cTDI) is an ultrasound technique that evaluates myocardial motion by assessing myocardial velocities. LÄS MER
22. HIV and pregnancy : an epidemiological, clinical and virological study of HIV-infected pregnant women and their offspring
Sammanfattning : Background: HIV infection is spread throughout most parts of the world with a substantial risk for a fatal outcome within 10 years. The virus is transmitted sexually, by infected blood and from mother to child. Whether the course of am HIV infection in women is changed by pregnancy is not known. LÄS MER
23. Influence of inflammation and of stage of lung development on the development of neonatal lung injury
Sammanfattning : Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a major cause of mortality and long-term morbidity in prematurely born infants. Pulmonary inflammation, and abnormal alveolar and vascular development of the lung are histological characteristics of BPD. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a central cytokine in inflammation. LÄS MER
24. Metabolic and cognitive effects after early prenatal dexamethasone treatment
Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD), is a disease with an inborn error of the adrenal steroid synthesis. This enzyme deficiency leads to cortisol shortage and androgen excess. LÄS MER
25. Pregnancy Ultrasound Detecting Soft Markers – the Challenge of Communicating Risk Figures
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on expectant parents’ experiences and needs when soft makers are detected at mid-trimester ultrasound, resulting in an unexpected assessment of risk for fetal anomalies. The thesis also describes the prevalence of ultrasonographic fetal soft markers and the incidence of Down syndrome in a low-risk population of 10,535 pregnant women with a total of 10,710 fetuses, as well as the risk of invasive prenatal diagnostics in conjunction with the detection of soft markers.
