  1. 1. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease

    Författare :Karna Johansson; Camilla Sandberg; Bengt Johansson; Thomas Mooe; Mats Börjesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adults with complex congenital heart disease; ACHD; body composition; skeletal muscle; lean mass; muscular strength; sarcopenia; bone; bone mass; bone mineral density; bone health; osteoporosis; fat; fat mass; obesity; Vuxna med medfödda hjärtfel; vuxna med komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; kroppssammansättning; skelettmuskel; styrka; sarkopeni; ben; benmassa; bendensitet; osteoporos; fett; fettmassa; obesitas; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. LÄS MER

  2. 2. When the paediatric heart is affected : impact on nutrition, growth and body composition from infancy to adolescence

    Författare :Lena Hansson; Annika Rydberg; Inger Öhlund; Torbjörn Lind; Tanis Fenton; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Congenital heart disease; Patent ductus arteriosus; Preterm infant; Infant growth; Energy intake; Dietary fatty acid; Micronutrient intake; Vitamin D; Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry DXA ; Fontan circulation.; pediatrik; Pediatrics; Food and Nutrition; kostvetenskap; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundChildren with complex congenital heart disease (CHD) and very low birth weight (VLBW) infants with a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) are two distinct groups of patients with different clinical care needs. Irrespective of the type of heart condition, nutritional intake and growth is largely affected in these individuals during infancy. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Childhood malignant disease and consequences for growth hormone secretion, intellectual function and cardiovascular risk

    Författare :Katarina Link; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone deficiency; Insulin sensitivity; Cranial radiotherapy; Neuropsychological performance; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia; diabetologi; sekretion; Endokrinologi;

    Sammanfattning : In childhood onset growth hormone deficiency (GHD) a reduction in cardiac left ventricular mass (LVMi) and impairment of cardiac systolic function, as well as in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) has been shown. In study I, we showed that a low dose of GH treatment for 10 months resulted in increased LVMi and kidney size. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Metabolic Effects of Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy in Adults - with Special Reference to Insulin Sensitivity

    Författare :Mikael Segerlantz; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; cortisol replacement; lipid oxidation; glucose metabolism; glucose uptake; insulin resitance; GH; insulin sensitivity; GH deficiency;

    Sammanfattning : A risk for premature atherosclerosis and increased cardiovascular mortality has been reported in adult patients suffering from growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and receiving conventional hormone substitution without growth hormone (GH) replacement. GHD patients are resistant to insulin, which is a potential risk factor for cardiovascular mortality. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in hypopituitary patients and metabolic effects of growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Birgitta Bulow; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucose metabolism; growth hormone replacement; growth hormone deficiency; long-term survival; craniopharyngioma; cardiovascular risk factors; Hypopituitarism; cardiovascular mortality; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Premature atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk factors and increased cardiovascular mortality have been shown in patients with hypopituitarism on conventional hormone treatment, but without growth hormone (GH) replacement. The aims of paper I-III were to investigate separately the risks for cerebrovascular and cardiac mortality as well as the incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with hypopituitarism and to assess the long-term prognosis for patients with craniopharyngioma.
