16. Antibodies during pregnancy : Aspects on complications during pregnancy and complications related to transfusion
Sammanfattning : The fetus acquires half of its genetic infonnation from the father and represents a foreign graft in pregnancy. The overall mechanisms contributing to immunologic tolerance and successful pregancy still are an enigma. Accumulating results of immunologic research, however, offer an explanation for many events in pregnancy. LÄS MER
17. Expression and regulation of water channels and ion transporters : ontogenic aspects
Sammanfattning : The content and distribution of body water changes dramatically during the perinatal period and in infancy. Transport of water across the cell membrane occurs via diffusion and via specific water channels. Transport via water channels is fast and may be hormonally regulated. LÄS MER
18. Regulation and function of the Clara cell secretory protein
Sammanfattning : The Clara cell secretory protein (CCSP; also known as Polychlorinated Biphenyl-binding protein (PCB-BP) or Uteroglobin) is specifically produced and secreted into the distal airway lumen by the non-ciliated Clara cell. It is a low molecular weight homodimeric protein and binds certain metabolites of PCBs as well as progestins and calcium. LÄS MER
19. Differential maturation of Na+,K+-ATPase in the rat : transcriptional regulation by glucocorticoids
Sammanfattning : Na+,K+-ATPase is a ubiquitous transmembrane enzyme that creates the electrochemical gradient across the cell membrane. Na+,K+-ATPase activity is low in many immature tissues. LÄS MER
20. Does cancer originate in utero?
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present thesis was to evaluate Trichopoulos' hypothesis that breast cancer can originate in utero, and to examine the role of antenatal estrogen exposure in the etiology of testicular cancer. First, we used data from a Swedish-Norwegian cohort study on risk factors for small-for-gestational-age births to identify markers for antenatal estrogen exposure. LÄS MER
