    Sammanfattning : This dissertation studies patterns in childbearing and reproductive behaviour in Kazakhstan, a context that has undergone a process of re-traditionalization since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.     Sammanfattning : Similar to other Western European countries, immigrants and children of immigrants constitute growing segments of the Swedish population. Analyzing fertility patterns among immigrants and their children is important because (1) understanding potential heterogeneity in fertility preferences and behavior among population subgroups improves the understanding of fertility trends for the overall population, (2) fertility patterns can serve as an indicator of immigrants’ integration into the destination society, and (3) research can contribute with facts and nuanced perspectives to the emotionally charged political debate on immigrant and minority fertility.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation uses longitudinal micro-data from Stockholm between 1878 and 1926 to study the causes and consequences of the fertility transition and to examine the development of living standards inequality during industrialization. Although both processes have received much interest from researchers, we know relatively little of how either one played out among individuals in urban areas, which were both at the forefront of industrialization and the fertility decline.     Sammanfattning : The purpose of this dissertation is to produce a cohesive study on how income is related to different events that constitute fertility, such as entry into parenthood, continued childbearing, and the risk of remaining childless. Relying on register-based longitudinal data on men and women living in Sweden between 1968 and 2009, this study aims to contribute to the literature by providing insight into whether or not income facilitates fertility and how it changes across parity transitions, gender, and educational attainment.
