21. Nitrogen dynamics in crop sequences with winter oilseed rape and winter wheat
Sammanfattning : With the aim of improving fertiliser nitrogen (N) strategies and reducing N leaching, seasonal changes in soil N supply in crop sequences with winter wheat after winter oilseed rape were examined through field experiments. Break crop effects on wheat after oilseed rape, compared with after peas and oats, were determined as regards residual N, yield and optimum N rate (Opt-N). LÄS MER
22. Use of pre-treatments and substrate blending to enhance process efficiency in black soldier fly larvae composting of food industry waste
Sammanfattning : Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) composting is a biowaste treatment that converts biomass into valuable animal protein and fertiliser, but low protein content and complex molecules (e.g. fibre) in substrate reduce BSFL composting efficiency. This thesis evaluated the impact of using pre-treatments and blending substrates on BSFL process efficiency. LÄS MER
23. Long-term phosphorus supply in agricultural soils : size and dynamics of fast- and slow-desorbing phosphorus pools
Sammanfattning : To improve phosphorus (P) fertiliser management, a better understanding of inorganic P exchange between the soil solution and solid phase is needed. This thesis examined the dynamics of this exchange, distinguishing between pools of P that are fast- and slowdesorbing, and compared methods for quantification of these pools. LÄS MER
24. Urban waste management and the environmental impact of organic waste treatment systems in Kampala, Uganda
Sammanfattning : In Kampala, Uganda, about 28,000 tonnes of waste are collected and delivered to landfill every month. Kampala Capital City Authority records show that this represents approximately 40 % of the waste generated in the city. LÄS MER
25. Time and spatial dependent climate impact of grass cultivation and grass-based biogas system
Sammanfattning : One strategy to limit global warming is to phase out fossil products and replace them with bio-based alternatives. This is often referred to as transitioning from a fossil economy to a bioeconomy. LÄS MER
