  1. 1. Central venous catheterisation - clinical studies on mechanical complications in the ultrasound-guided era

    Författare :Maria Adrian; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; central venous catheterisation; ultrasound; mechanical complication; subclavian vein; Internal jugular vein; femoral vein; guidewire;

    Sammanfattning : Central venous catheterisation is one of the most common invasive procedures performed on patients in secondary care. Unfortunately the catheterisation procedure is associated with mechanical complications that both can be life-threatening and may force postponement of life-saving treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy. 2. 2. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function

    Författare :Karin Thorlacius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; vein.; artery; endothelium; sympathetic nervous system; inhalation agent sevoflurane; Anaesthesia; intravenous propofol;

    Sammanfattning : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 3. 3. Human vascular alpha-adrenoceptors. A study of peripheral arteries and veins in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Stig Steen; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : By means of a sensitive myograph and alpha-receptor subtype selective agonists and antagonists the postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in small omental and groin arteries and veins and in long saphenous veins obtained from 52 "healthy" adults during surgery. These vessels were found to have a mixed population of contraction mediating postjunctional alpha-receptors with a predominance of apha1-receptors in the arteries and a predominance of alpha2-receptors in the veins, although regional variations occurred. 4. 4. Venous thrombosis in children : the roles of vascular access and critical illness

    Författare :Åsa Östlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Venous thromboembolism (VT) is a rare event in the general pediatric population. However, the incidence in hospitalized children is higher and has increased dramatically reaching 58 per 10 000 children. The single most important risk factor for pediatric VT is the presence of a central venous catheter. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Forensic taphonomy in an indoor setting : Implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Ceciliason; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; M. Gunnar Andersson; Anders Lindström; Niels Lynnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Forensic taphonomy; Indoor setting; Post-mortem interval estimation; Hepatic decomposition score; Total body score; microbial neoformation; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine if and how taphonomic data can be used to expand our knowledge concerning the decompositional process in an indoor setting, as well as adapting scoring-based methods for quantification of human decomposition, to increase the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimates.In the first paper, the established methods of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree-Days (ADD) were investigated in an indoor setting, with results indicating a fairly low precision.
