  1. 1. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors in the environment : Effects of citalopram on fish behaviour

    Författare :Martin Kellner; Håkan Olsén; Inger Porsch-Hällström; Magnus Breitholtz; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Citalopram; SSRI; stickleback; Baltic; behaviour; fish; feeding; anxiety; boldness; serotonin; development; Storspigg; serotonin; östersjön; SSRI; läkemedel; miljö; citalopram; ätbeteende; beteende; utveckling; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of anxiolytic and anti-depressant drugs. SSRIs act on the evolutionarily ancient serotonergic system which is virtually identical throughout the vertebrate phylum. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The role of HMG-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) and statin medication in the Central Nervous System : Cognitive Functions, Metabolism, Feeding and Sleep Behaviour

    Författare :Ahmed Alsehli; Helgi B. Schiöth; Michael J. Williams; Heinrich Dircksen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Statin; cardiovascular disease; HMGCR; PCSK9; sleep; insomnia; circadian; Chronotype; feeding;

    Sammanfattning : Millions of people are currently on statin medications (HMGCR inhibitors) to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Despite considerable central nervous system expression, little is known about HMGCR function in the brain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Domestication effects on foraging behaviour : consequences for adaptability in chickens

    Författare :Christina Lindqvist; Per Jensen; Björn Forkman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Etologi; chicken; domestication effects; behaviour; red jungle fowl RJF ; contrafreeloading CFL ; egg production; Ethnology; Etnologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study domestication effects on foraging behaviour in chickens and to investigate whether and how domestication and selection for high production have influenced adaptability in chickens. Two domestic strains of chickens (egg layers and meat type chickens) and their wild ancestor, the red jungle fowl (RJF) were compared in different test situations with respect to foraging behaviour and adaptability. 4. 4. Behavioural and Neuroendocrine Effects of Stress in Salmonid Fish

    Författare :Øyvind Øverli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Aggression; Behaviour; Brain; Coping; Cortisol; Dominance; Dopamine; Feeding; Hierarchy; Norepinephrine; Responsiveness; Serotonin; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stress can affect several behavioural patterns, such as food intake and the general activity level of an animal. The central monoamine neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine are important in the mediation of both behavioural and neuroendocrine stress effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Predator effects on behaviour and life-history of prey

    Författare :Tomas Brodin; Frank Johansson; Bradley Anholt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; activity; behaviour; behavioural syndromes; damselfly; development; growth; life-history; predator-prey interaction; predation risk; thinning; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I investigate predator-induced effects on behavioural and life-history characteristics of prey. At any moment a given predator is capable of attacking a small number of prey. LÄS MER
