1. Active and passive seismic methods for investigating the glacially-triggered Burträsk fault
Sammanfattning : Glacially-triggered faults are of high scientific interest since their formation was likely accompanied by major earthquakes and they are still a centre of seismicity in northern Fennoscandia, today. Imaging their deeper structure mainly relies on reflection seismics since the method generally has the best resolving power at depth of all geophysical methods. LÄS MER
2. The geology and genesis of lead-zinc veins in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The geology and genesis of Pb-Zn-bearing vein deposits in Sweden have been studied through investigations of their geological setting, vein and alteration mineralogy, wall rock geochemistry, lead and sulfur isotope composition and sphalerite composition, and through thermometric measurements on fluid inclusions from selected veins. The investigated deposits include Subjotnian veins from Älvdalen, Dalslandian veins from Dalsland and Värmskog, Caledonian quartz and calcite veins, Devonian deposits in the Siljan Ring structure, and Variscan veins in SE Scania. 3. Constraining the timing of veins, faults and fractures in crystalline rocks by in situ Rb-Sr geochronology
Sammanfattning : Precambrian cratons are continent cores archiving the oldest crustal histories on Earth. The crystalline basement of cratons is typically characterized by complex arrays of multiple fracture and fault generations hosting minerals formed by fluids flowing through fracture networks. 4. Earthquake Sources and Hazard in northern Central America
Sammanfattning : Northern Central America is a tectonically complex zone defined by its borders with Cocos and North America plates. The Middle America subduction zone and the strike-slip motion along the North America-Caribbean plate boundary, in that order, control most of its deformation. LÄS MER
5. Earthquake Sources, the Stress Field and Seismic Hazard : A Study in Eritrea and its Surrounding
Sammanfattning : Presented in this thesis are some basic concepts and applications of seismic hazard analysis and the elements that influence the amplitude and geometric attenuation of earthquake ground motion. This thesis centers on the identification of the styles of failure, focal mechanisms, and the state of regional stress in the study area. LÄS MER
