6. Fault-tolerance in HLA-based distributed simulations
Sammanfattning : Successful integration of simulations within the Network-Based Defence (NBD), specifically use of simulations within Command and Control (C2) environments, enforces a number of requirements. Simulations must be reliable and be able to respond in a timely manner. Otherwise the commander will have no confidence in using simulation as a tool. LÄS MER
7. Multi-LSTM Acceleration and CNN Fault Tolerance
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the following two problems related to the field of Machine Learning: the acceleration of multiple Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) models on FPGAs and the fault tolerance of compressed Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). LSTMs represent an effective solution to capture long-term dependencies in sequential data, like sentences in Natural Language Processing applications, video frames in Scene Labeling tasks or temporal series in Time Series Forecasting. 8. Multiple-Bit Errors in Computer Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the types of transient faults caused by heavy-ion or a-particle radiation that manifest as multiple-bit errors and how information redundancy techniques can achieve fault tolerance with respect to some classes of multiple-bit errors. The first part of the thesis considers the fault modelling problem, beginning with the problem of how single event upsets (SEUs) originating from faults in register cells in microprocessors manifest as primary errors. 9. Assessment and Comparison of Physical Fault Injection Techniques
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the problem of validating and estimating the effectiveness of error handling mechanisms in computer systems. The main contribution is an assessment of the effectiveness and usefulness of several physical fault injection techniques. LÄS MER
10. On Fault Injection-Based Assessment of Safety-Critical Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with techniques for designing and evaluating error detection and recovery mechanisms for computer systems. For the assessment of such systems, we describe a comprehensive fault injection tool that is capable of emulating the effects of hardware errors in microprocessors. LÄS MER
