11. Liver-related complications and metabolic comorbidities during long-term follow-up of patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is highly associated with the metabolic syndrome, and due to increasing prevalence of for example obesity it is now the most common liver disease in the world. A minority progress to advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis, which is associated with increased mortality, but it is not entirely clear which patients who have an increased risk of fibrosis. LÄS MER
12. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease : an emerging liver disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to evaluate what NAFLD is from a molecular perspective, what influences the disease progression and what the prognosis of the disease is. Fatty liver has earlier often been associated with excessive alcohol intake and only in the last two decades has it been viewed as a condition in non- drinkers i.e. LÄS MER
13. Dietary Fatty Acids, Body Composition and Ectopic Fat : Results from Overfeeding Studies in Humans
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of dietary fatty acids on body composition and ectopic fat in humans, with emphasis on the role of the omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and the saturated fatty acid (SFA) palmitic acid (16:0). The overall hypothesis was that linoleic acid would be beneficial compared with palmitic acid during overfeeding, as previously indicated in animals. LÄS MER
14. Translational genetics identifies a novel target to treat fatty liver disease
Sammanfattning : Fatty liver disease (FLD) is rapidly prevailing as the most common liver disease worldwide, with an estimated of one-quarter of the global population affected. Environmental and genetic determinants contribute to FLD susceptibility. LÄS MER
15. The role of PPARalpha and growth hormone in hepatic lipid metaboism and atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Dyslipidemia mainly results from oversecretion of apoB-containing lipoproteins from theliver and is one of the most important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis.Growth hormone (GH) plays a key role in the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and thus, disturbances in GH secretion are associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
