1. Evolution of mate signalling in moths: Biosynthetic gene families and diversification of female sex pheromones
Sammanfattning : Pheromones are intraspecific chemical signals serving as a ubiquitous form of communication, particularly among insects. Female sex-pheromone signals act as the core constituent in the specialized odour-mediated moth mate-recognition system. Female moths typically release multicomponent mixtures of alcohols, aldehydes or acetates. LÄS MER
2. Molecular cloning and characterization of the murine acyl-CoA thioesterase CTE-I
Sammanfattning : Mouse cytosolic type I acyl-CoA thioesterase (CTE-I) is a member of the type I family of acylCoA thioesterases. These enzymes hydrolyze acyl-CoAs to non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs) and Coenzyme A (CoA-SH) and are strongly induced in rodent liver by a diverse group of compounds called peroxisome proliferators. 3. Acyl-CoA thioesterases : auxiliary enzymes in peroxisomal lipid metabolism
Sammanfattning : Peroxisomes are small organelles essential for life, which carry out a variety of functions mostly related to lipid metabolism, including α- and β-oxidation as well as the first steps of plasmalogen biosynthesis. Peroxisomal β-oxidation metabolizes many different lipids including very long-chain fatty acids, dicarboxylic fatty acids, branched-chain fatty acids, eicosanoids and certain xenobiotic fatty acids. 4. The type-I acyl-CoA thioesterase/acyltransferase gene family : linking structure to function
Sammanfattning : Acyl-CoA thioesterases hydrolyse acyl-CoAs to non-esterified fatty acids and coenzyme A (CoASH), thereby regulating intracellular levels of these compounds. We have recently identified and initiated characterisation of a novel, unique gene family of acyl-CoA thioesterases/acyltransferases, called the Type-I acyl-CoA thioesterase/acyltransferase gene family. 5. Characterization of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARa) regulated acyl-CoA thioesterases involved in lipid metabolism
Sammanfattning : The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) is a key nuclear receptor in the control of lipid metabolism. Target genes for PPARalpha include many enzymes involved in the oxidation of fatty acids in mitochondria and peroxisomes. LÄS MER
