  1. 1. Female choice and paternal care in the fifteen-spined stickleback, Spinachia spinachia

    Författare :Sara Östlund-Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; fifteen-spined stickleback; spinachia spinachia; female choice; paternal care; nest building; ornament; fanning; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the fifteen-spined stickleback, Spinachia spinachia, males provide females with direct benefits by fanning, cleaning and guarding the offspring. Males announce their parental skills through intense body shakes during courtship. Females preferred to mate with more intensely shaking males. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of 11-ketotestosterone and prolactin in the control of reproductive behaviour in the male three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus

    Författare :Miklós K. Páll; Rui Oliveira; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reproductive behaviour; three-spined stickleback; Gasterosteus aculeatus;

    Sammanfattning : The male three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, builds a nest by glueing plant material together using an 11-ketotestosterone (11kT) induced protein (spiggin) secreted from the kidney. When females have been induced to lay eggs in the nest, male sexual (zigzag) behaviour decreases and parental care (fanning) increases. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sexual selection in Pomatoschistus – nests, sperm competition, and paternal care

    Författare :Ola Svensson; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Sigal Balshine; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Female choice; Filial cannibaism; Gobiidae; Nests; Paternal care; Pomatoschistus microps; Pomatoschistus minutus; Sexual selection; Sperm competition; Teleostei; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual selection arises through variation in reproductive success. This thesis investigates different aspects important in sexual selection, namely nest building, sperm competition, paternity and paternal care, and their mutual interrelationships. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Paternal care, filial cannibalism and sexual conflict in the sand goby, Pomatoschistus minutus

    Författare :Maria Lissåker; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Ulrika Candolin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; female choice; filial cannibalism; Gobiidae; parental care; Pomatoschistus minutus; sand goby; sexual conflict; sexual selection; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Natural and sexual selection and sexual conflict are forces shaping the evolution of reproductive behaviour, while constrained by factors like environment, physiology and life-history trade-offs. Parental care is costly both in terms of time and energy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Epidemiologic studies of nasal cancer and occupational exposures

    Författare :Pietro Comba; Östergötlands Läns Landsting; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The object of the present research has been to elucidate the associations between malignant epithelial neoplasms of the nasal cavities and paranasal sinuses and workplace exposures to ascertained as well as suspected cancer causing agents and processes.The research includes six independent case-control studies, located in various Italian regions.
