  1. 1. Epidemiologic studies of amytrophic lateral sclerosis

    Författare :Fang Fang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; association; bone turnover; early life exposure; familial aggregation; incidence; lead exposure; relative risk; temporal trend;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive muscular paralysis reflecting degeneration of motor neurons in the primary motor cortex, corticospinal tracts, brainstem and spinal cord. The causes of ALS remain largely unknown more than 140 years after the disease was first described. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Benfiskar; karpfiskar; fylogeni; Sydasien; Sydostasien; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Danio Hamilton, in the wide sense, consists of 66 nominal species, of which about 45 are valid. Four species, viz. D. kakhienensis, D. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Childhood bereavement, stress resilience, and cancer risk : an integrated register-based approach

    Författare :Beatrice Kennedy; Katja Fall; Fang Fang; Unnur Valdimarsdottír; Scott Montgomery; Meena Kumari; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; bereavement; cancer; drug use; epidemiology; health behaviour; psychological resilience; smoking; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that psychosocial stress and susceptibility to stressful exposures – stress resilience – influence the risk of various health outcomes, but the potential link with cancer occurrence is unclear. The aims of this thesis were to test if loss of a close relative, a marker of severe psychological stress, and stress resilience measured during late adolescence are associated with cancer risk later in life, as well as to explore potential underlying mechanisms. 4. 4. Parental cancer and children’s well-being : understanding the potential role of psychological stress

    Författare :Chen Ruoqing; Fang Fang; Unnur Valdimarsdóttir; Katja Fall; Kamila Czene; Corinna Bergelt; Sweden Stockholm Karolinska Institutet Institutionen för Medicinsk Epidemiologi och Biostatistik; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Early life stress has a major influence on one’s health through the life course. During childhood, early experience may not only affect the normal brain development, but also influence the susceptibility to mental and physical disorders. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stress susceptibility, beta-blocker use and cancer survival

    Författare :Ruzan Udumyan; Katja Fall; Scott Montgomery; Fang Fang; Edoardo Botteri; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stress resilience; β-blockers; primary cancer; survival analysis; overall mortality; cancer-specific mortality; register-based cohort study;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that chronic stress may influence tumour biology through activation of neuroendocrine pathways and thus impair survival. However, measuring stressful exposures and their influence on health is challenging, partly due to substantial inter-individual variation in stress susceptibility. LÄS MER
