6. Genetic polymorphisms, IGF-1, and oral contraceptive use in women from high-risk breast cancer families
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Swedish women, affecting more than 7000 women each year. About 5-10% of all breast cancers are hereditary, with a monogenic inheritance pattern, but only 2-4% are explained by germline mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2. BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers have a 60-80% risk of developing breast cancer. LÄS MER
7. Molecular Epidemiology of Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : Hereditary breast cancer constitutes a considerable fraction of the total number of breast cancer cases occurring each year. Up until recently very few breast cancer predisposing genes were known, but many new common polymorphisms contributing to increased cancer susceptibility are continuously being identified. LÄS MER
8. The Polyamine Dependence of Cell Cycle Progression-Application in Breast Cancer Treatment
Sammanfattning : In the normal functioning organism, there is a balance between cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and cell death. An imbalance in these processes results in different diseases. This thesis concerns the imbalance where there is too little cell death and cell differentiation with increased cell proliferation. 9. Reproductive factors with respect to breast cancer risk and breast cancer survival
Sammanfattning : Aims: The primary aim of this thesis was to examine the potential relationship between indirect markers of exposure to hormones during pregnancy and the risk of and survival from breast cancer, with special emphasis on young patients. Our specific objectives were as follows: to determine whether the association between placental weight and offspring size, on the one hand, and maternal mortality from breast cancer, on the other, are influenced by tumor characteristics; to examine the association between birth weight and risk of breast cancer in the female member of opposite-sexed twins; and to investigate whether familial factors influence previously reported association between reproductive factors and risk of breast cancer. 10. Genetic studies in familial breast cancer
Sammanfattning : This study focuses on familial breast cancer, where some alteration is supposed to be inherited and predispose the individuals to breast cancer. Even when the majority of breast cancer cases are sporadic, a familial breast cancer study might light on over certain genes involved in the etiology of the disease. LÄS MER
