1. Studies on HIV-2 antibody mediated neutralisation, coreceptor usage and in vivo tropism
Sammanfattning : Human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2) is the second virus that causes AIDS in humans. It has a genetic identity with HIV-1 of 40-60% and similar genetic organisation and biological properties, but the two viruses are distinguished certain features. LÄS MER
2. Puumala hantavirus : immune responses and vaccines
Sammanfattning : Hantaviruses (family Bunyaviridae) is a group of closely related zoonotic rodent-borne viruses that are transmitted to humans through inhalation of infected rodent excreta. They cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) with varying degree of severity depending on the causative virus. LÄS MER
3. Signal Enhancement by Dynamic Polymers in Quartz Crystal Microbalance Applications
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents studies of signal enhancement by dynamic polymers in quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) applications. The aim of the study has been to determine the potential for the use of polymers on QCM sensors for signal enhancement in molecular interaction studies. LÄS MER
4. Towards Personalized Cancer Therapy : New Diagnostic Biomarkers and Radiosensitization Strategies
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the evaluation of biomarkers for radio-immunodiagnostics and radio-immunotherapy and on radiosensitization strategies after HSP90 inhibition, as a step towards more personalized cancer medicine. There is a need to develop new tracers that target cancer-specific biomarkers to improve diagnostic imaging, as well as to combine treatment strategies to potentiate synergistic effects. LÄS MER
5. Molecular recognition of proteins by functionalized folded polypeptide receptors
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and characterization of synthetic receptor molecules for the recognition and binding of proteins with applications in bioseparation and biosensing. A 42-residue polypeptide, designed to fold into a helix-loop-helix motif and dimerize in solution to form a four-helix bundle, was used as the scaffold. LÄS MER
