  1. 1. Renewable Energy in Energy-Efficient, Low-Pollution Systems

    Författare :Bengt Johansson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogen; ethanol; methanol; rape methyl ester; biomass; renewable energy; cogeneration; energy efficiency; scenarios; air pollution; carbon dioxide; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Sammanfattning : Energy use accounts for the dominating fraction of total sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In this thesis, different strategies for reducing these emissions are evaluated, using a bottom-up approach. The thesis is divided in two parts. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Soil and stream water chemistry in a boreal catchment - interactions, influences of dissolved organic matter and effects of wood ash application

    Författare :Sara H Norström; Ulla Lundström; Dan Bylund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Boreal forest; catchment studies; dissolved organic carbon; soil solution; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Two small bordering catchments in Bispgården, Central Sweden, wereinvestigated in regard to soil solution and stream water chemistry during the frostfree seasons of 2003-2007. Both catchments were drained by first order streams,Fanbergsbäcken and Gråbergsbäcken, and in Fanbergsbäckens catchment anextensive investigation of the soil and soil solution chemistry was conducted bylysimeter and centrifugation sampling. 3. 3. Dynamic modelling of the forest ecosystem: Incorporation of the phosphorus cycle

    Författare :Lin Yu; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamic modeling; forest ecosystem; phosphorus cycle;

    Sammanfattning : The forest ecosystem provides and regulates many important ecosystem services, such as soil and water protection, timber production, and climate regulation. It has been influenced by changes induced by humans, for example, our increasing demand for timber and bioenergy, the increase in nitrogen (N) deposition and CO2 concentrations due to industrialization, and climate change which has caused an increase in global temperature and extreme events such as storms. 4. 4. A palaeolimnological study of the anthropogenic impact on dissolved organic carbon in South Swedish lakes

    Författare :Petra Bragée; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DOC; Brownification; Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm; Land-use changes; Lake sediments; Anthropogenic impact;

    Sammanfattning : During the past three decades, increases have been observed in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations and colour in the surface waters of lakes and rivers in parts of Europe and North America, raising concern about the effects on the quality of aquatic environments with consequences for biodiversity, resource availability and recreational use. Various hypotheses have been put forward to explain the recent increases in DOC concentration and numerous studies have been published linking them to declining anthropogenic atmospherically deposited sulphur. 5. 5. Brownification of freshwaters - the role of dissolved organic matter and iron

    Författare :Sara Ekström; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brownification; freshwater; water color; dissolved organic matter DOM ; iron Fe ; decreasing acidification; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : The term brownification refers to the trend of increasing water color, i.e. the water becoming browner, which has been observed throughout the northern hemisphere over the last decades. Brownification has both ecological and societal implications. LÄS MER
