    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate associations between psychotropic drug use and death, associations between functional capacity, dependency in ADL and depression, and to evaluate a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce depressive symptoms, among older people with and without dementia.There is limited knowledge about the risk of death associated with psychotropic drug use among those aged ≥85 years, those with dementia, or those living in residential care facilities; groups that have a higher intake of psychotropic drugs and who are also more prone to adverse drug reactions.     Sammanfattning : Bakgrund: Subsyndromal depression (SSD) eller subklinisk depression är ett vanligt affektivt tillstånd som kan beskrivas som depressivitet under gränsen för vad som kallas syndromal eller egentlig depressiv episod. Förekomsten av SSD har rapporterats vara ungefär 10 % i populationen, eller ungefär 2-3 gånger högre än förekomsten av syndromal depression. LÄS MER

With a neuroscientific approach, I have investigated the relationship between obesity and depression with the aim of bridging the different levels of research available in order to better understand this complex topic. Using data from a longitudinal cohort with adults, we analysed the genetic contribution to antidepressant response in Study I. The proportion of elderly is increasing in Sweden, especially among the group of very old aged over 85 years.
