  1. 1. Regulation of Drosophila Jun by phosphorylation and the ubiquitin system during eye development

    Författare :Anders Isaksson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; eye development; ubiquitin; D-Jun; phosphorylation; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of these studies has been to elucidate the biological relevance of post-translational modifications in the context of a living organism. The model system used is photoreceptor differentiation during development of the compound eye in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The rhomboid family of intramembrane proteases, conserved regulators of cell communication

    Författare :Marco Gallio; Per Kylsten; Pernille Rørth; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell communication; proteolysis; EGF receptor; development; genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The development of multicellular organisms relies heavily on cell communication. Cells send and receive complex sets of signals, harmonising their growth and differentiation with that of other, often distant, cell populations. In animals, the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is an important mediator of cell communication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Celestial Orientation in Dim Light

    Författare :Marie Dacke; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polarisation pattern; moon; polrised light detection; twilight; dim light; dung beetle; Zoologi; spider; vision; orientation; Zoology;

    Sammanfattning : The polarization pattern of skylight offers many animals a reference for visual compass orientation. In those cases when this optical compass is identified, the receptors involved are often confined to a small part of an eye built predominantly for other visual tasks. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploiting Drosophila as a model system for studying anaplastic lymphoma kinase in vivo

    Författare :Therese Eriksson; Ruth Palmer; Stefan Thor; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaplastic lymphoma kinase; Receptor tyrosine kinase; Jeb; neuroblastoma; actin polymerization; Wasp; Scar; Vrp1; Arp2 3; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) is a Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTK) and an oncogene associated with several human diseases, but its normal function in humans and other vertebrates is unclear. Drosophila melanogaster has an ALK homolog, demonstrating that the RTK has been conserved throughout evolution. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Protein tyrosine kinases and the regulation of signalling and adhesion in drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Caroline Grabbe; Ruth Palmer; Tapio Heino; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Signalling; Adhesion; Protein Tyrosine Kinase; Development; Endocytosis; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to build a multi-cellular organism and to regulate cellular functions, cells need to communicate with each other, as well as tightly regulate their behaviour in response to environmental changes. For these purposes all eukaryotic cells express a large number of membrane spanning receptors that either themselves contain catalytic activity or via cytoplasmic effector enzymes, function to transmit “signals” from the cell exterior to induce appropriate responses within the cell.
