1. Adolescents Born Extremely Preterm : Cognitive, Behavioural and Relational Outcomes
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate long-term outcomes in a regional cohort of adolescents born extremely preterm (before the 29th gestational week) and compare them to full-term born controls. Fifty-two prematurely and 54 full-term born individuals were recruited from a follow-up study at 10 years of age. LÄS MER
2. Extremely preterm birth : brain imaging and outcome at early school-age
Sammanfattning : There has been a dramatic increase in the survival of extremely preterm children over the last decades, and the awareness of the consequences of extremely preterm birth on the developing brain is increasing. This thesis aimed at investigating the neurodevelopmental outcome of extremely preterm children at early school-age, focusing on visual-motor integration and motor impairments, and their relation to findings on early magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. 3. School-age outcomes of children born at the limit of viability : a Swedish national prospective follow-up study at 10 to 12 years
Sammanfattning : Background/Aim: During the past two decades, major advances in maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, and the development of regionalized perinatal care have resulted in dramatic increases in survival rates, by more than 60%, of extremely immature (EI) infants born at less than 26 completed weeks of gestation, creating a new infant population. Studies of school-age outcomes in children with an extremely low birth weight of < 1000 g, born in the1980s, indicated that these children had a substantially high prevalence of low-severity neuropsychological deficits, behavioral problems, and difficulties at school. 4. Markers and mechanisms of abnormal neurovascular development in the preterm infant
Sammanfattning : Background: The extremely preterm infant is at risk of lifelong neurodevelopmental impairments due to brain injuries or abnormal neurovascular development. Mechanisms are largely unknown and biomarkers for adverse outcomes are sparse. LÄS MER
5. Longitudinal studies of executive and cognitive development after preterm birth
Sammanfattning : Stockholm Neonatal Project is a longitudinal population-based study of children born prematurely in 1988-93, with a very low birth weight (.... LÄS MER
