  1. 1. Large and rare : An extreme values approach to estimating the distribution of large defects in high-performance steels

    Författare :Jens Ekengren; Jens Bergström; Christer Burman; Thomas Svensson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Non-metallic inclusions; Tool steel; Extreme value statistics; Distribution of defects; Generalized extreme values; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of different types of defects is an important reality for manufacturers and users of engineering materials. Generally, the defects are either considered to be the unwanted products of impurities in the raw materials or to have been introduced during the manufacturing process. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Values Behind Welfare Technology and Their Possible Realization : Creation of a Technology Evaluation Method for Care Practices

    Författare :Annika Hasselblad; Leif Olsson; Katarina L Gidlund; Aron Larsson; Xiu Gu; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :Care; evaluation; technology; values; welfare technologies.;

    Sammanfattning : In 2018 the Swedish government approved a SEK 350 million grant to increase the municipal implementation and use of welfare technologies in areas such as health care, care, and social service. Welfare technologies have been criticized for their effects on care workers’ work environment, such as increased stress due to time and performance demands. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Survey estimation for highly skewed data

    Författare :Forough Karlberg; Chris Skinner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extreme values; skewed populations; model-based inference; superpopulation; lognormal distribution; statistik; Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : Estimation of the population total of a highly skewed survey variable from a small sample is problematic if straightforward methods are used since (i) when there are no extreme values in the sample, too small estimates will be obtained (ii) if extreme values are sampled, the estimates will become grotesquely large. Traditional methods for outlier treatment will usually compensate for outliers in the sample, thereby avoiding (ii), whereas the small negative bias of (i) will persist. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On Evaluation and Modelling of Human Exposure to Vibration and Shock on Planing High-Speed Craft

    Författare :Katrin Olausson; Karl Garme; Jakob Kuttenkeuler; Dominic J. Taunton; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; whole-body vibration; high-speed craft; working conditions; seat modelling; apparent mass; ergonomics; human factors; ISO 2631-1; ISO 2631-5; extreme values; acceleration statistics; slamming;

    Sammanfattning : High speed in waves, necessary in for instance rescue or military operations, often result in severe loading on both the craft and the crew. To maximize the performance of the high-speed craft (HSC) system that the craft and crew constitute, balance between these loads is essential. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Holistic approach in engineering design - controlling risks from accidental hazards in bridge design

    Författare :Ivar Björnsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; codes; accidental; extreme; bridges; holistic; approach; robustness; risk; reliability; uncertainty;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering design, in concise terms, is what engineers do using what they know. It is the underlying decision making activity that determines what is to be built and how it should be built. An ever present requirement in engineering design is that the structure should be safe.
