  1. 1. High-contrast imaging of low-mass companions and debris disks

    Författare :Ruben Asensio Torres; Markus Janson; Subhanjoy Mohanty; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Direct imaging; extrasolar planets; debris disks; planet formation; high angular resolution; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : The search for exoplanets, i.e., planets orbiting other stars than the Sun, is a relatively new research field, but has already established itself as one of the most prolific and intriguing areas of astronomy. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Extrasolar Kuiper and asteroid belts Modelling far-infrared dust emission

    Författare :Joachim Wiegert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stars: binaries - Stars: circumstellar matter - Infrared: stars - Infrared: planetary systems - Submillimeter: stars;

    Sammanfattning : The first detections of circumstellar dust emission were announced in the mid 1980s. Direct observations of the edge-on disc of beta Pictoris provided evidence that the dust was part of possible planetary systems. About a decade later, in 1995, the first confirmed extrasolar planet around a main sequence star (51 Pegasi b) was announced. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Effects of Encounters on Planetary Systems in Stellar Clusters

    Författare :Daniel Malmberg; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Extrasolar planets are found to be on orbits very different from those of the planets in the solar system. Gas-giant planets have been found on orbits tighter than that of the planet Mercury, often with very high eccentricities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Circumstellar dust emission from nearby Solar-type stars

    Författare :Joachim Wiegert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stars: binaries - Stars: circumstellar matter - Infrared: stars - Infrared: planetary systems - Submillimeter: stars;

    Sammanfattning : Far-infrared excess above the photosphere of a star indicates the presence of a circumstellar dust disc which is a sign-post for extrasolar planets, and was first detected in the mid 1980s. Dust discs are intricately connected to planets and planetesimals, give insights in the dynamics and evolution of the system, and are also useful for future exoplanet-observations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Debris disks and the search for life in the universe

    Författare :Gianni Cataldi; Alexis Brandeker; Jean-Charles Augereau; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; debris disks; astrobiology; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Circumstellar debris disks are the extrasolar analogues of the asteroid belt and the Kuiper belt. These disks consist of comets and leftover planetesimals that continuously collide to produce copious amounts of circumstellar dust that can be observed as infrared excess or in resolved imaging.
