  1. 1. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis

    Författare :Changbin Shi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; signalling pathways; protein kinase C; nuclear factor-kB; leukocytes; inflammatory mediators; immunosuppression; acute pancreatitis; extracellular signal-regulated kinase;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 2. 2. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species

    Författare :Fredrik Clausen; Lars Hillered; Tiit Mathiesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Traumatic Brain Injury; Reactive oxygen species; Fluid percussion injury; Controlled cortical impact; weight drop injury; Extracellular-signal regulated kinase; apoptosis; free radical scavenging; morphology; functional outcome; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A Path for Improving Stroke Recovery. Effects of MEK-ERK1/2 Inhibition

    Författare :Maryam Mostajeran; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :Ischemic stroke; Extracellular-signal regulated kinase ERK 1 2; Mitogen activated protein kinase kinase MEK 1 2; Recovery; Functional outcome; sex;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis aimed to shed more light on the notion of acute inhibition of extracellular-signal regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 pathway as a treatment to improve stroke recovery. Stroke is a major cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, classified as ischemic or hemorrhagic. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Apoptosis-related mechanisms in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia

    Författare :Xiaoyang Wang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; neonatal; caspase; ERK; XIAP; EPO; asialoEPO; brain;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: To characterize the activation of caspases-3 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in the neonatal brain after hypoxia-ischemia (HI) injury and evaluate the neuroprotective effect of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) protein, erythropoietin (EPO) and the non-erythropoietic derivative asialoEPO. Methods: Seven-day-old rats or 9-day-old mice were subjected to HI. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth

    Författare :Åsa Schiött; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-b; monocyte; rat; costimulation; Th2; ERK; tumor; TIL; Immunology; serology; Immunologi; transplantation; T-lymphocyte; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
