21. Aspects of Dimensional Deconstruction and Neutrino Physics
Sammanfattning : The existence of at or curved extra spatial dimensions provides new insights into several of the problems which face the Standard Model of particle physics, including the gauge hierarchy problem, the smallness of neutrino masses, and the dark matter problem. However, higher-dimensional gauge theories are not renormalizable and can only be considered as low-energy effective theories, with limited applicability. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the scientific language in different subjects by analysing all grade 8 science items from TIMSS 2011, using four characteristic meaning dimensions of scientific language – Packing, Precision and Presentation of information, and the level of Personification in a text. The results, as well as results from established readability measures, are correlated with test performances of different student groups. LÄS MER
23. Quality of life and ethics-patients with ischemic heart disease
Sammanfattning : One month and one year after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) (n=296), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) (n=99) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (n=18) patients completed a questionnaire for self-assessment of quality of life (QoL) during the period 1989?1991. Patients differed from age- and sex-matched controls (n=88) in both somatic and emotional dimensions, but less after one year of follow-up. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Based on the principles of quantum mechanics, quantum information is a highly interesting and fast emerging field which refers to processing information encoded into the state of a quantum system and the subsequent use of such quantum systems for various information tasks. In this thesis, we have studied the role of single d-level quantum systems (qudits) as a quantum resource in the context of a communication task, commonly known as random access codes (RACs). LÄS MER
