  1. 1. Migration strategies of raptors – spatio-temporal adaptations and constraints in travelling and foraging

    Författare :Roine Strandberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; route convergence; loop migration; mortality; spatio-temporal distribution patterns; pre- and post-migratory movements; daily travel routines; satellite tracking; fly-and-forage migration; raptors;

    Sammanfattning : My dissertation is about bird migration and addresses questions about how raptors adapt to the fluctuating environments during the transition seasons between breeding and wintering. The migration is highly affected by local prey abundance, foraging strategies, weather conditions and landscape patterns along the migration routes as well as navigation and orientation mechanisms and cues. 2. 2. Assessment and Remediation for Children with Special Educational Needs : The role of Working Memory, Complex Executive Function and Metacognitive Strategy Training

    Författare :Petri Partanen; Örjan Sundin; Jan Lisspers; Billy Jansson; Ann-Charlotte Smedler; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Children with special educational needs; Assessment; Working memory; Working memory training; Complex executive function; Planning; Metacognition; Mathematical learning difficulties; Barn i behov av stöd; Utredning; Arbetsminne; Arbetsminnesträning; Komplex exekutiv funktion; Planering; Metakognition; Matematiksvårigheter;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the role of different assessment tools and training regimens in assessment and remediation for children with special educational needs in school. A central purpose of assessment explored was that it should inform remediation, teaching and instruction. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Geographic Distribution of Intra-specific Variation in Widespread Eurasian boreo-nemoral Woodland Herbs

    Författare :Torbjörn Tyler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik; morfologi; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; phytogeography; morphology; taxonomy; historical biogeography; Systematic botany; allozymes; population differentiation; postglacial migration; genetic variation; geographic variation;

    Sammanfattning : Many woodland plant species have huge distribution areas covering large parts of the Eurasian continent including areas that were glaciated during the last glacial period. In the present thesis, the geographic distribution of variation within such species is investigated and discussed in relation to glacial survival and post-glacial migration, dispersal ability, breeding system and levels of gene-flow between populations and related species, and various methods to measure and analyse genetic variation. 4. 4. The threat from non indigenous species - ecosystem vulnerability, global distribution and co-occurrence with other major threats

    Författare :Helena Berglund; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; threats; distribution range; isolation; endemism; invasions; invaders; vulnerability; non indigenous species; rarity; threatened species;

    Sammanfattning : We live in a globalised world where people and goods travel large distances. Various species are brought along on these journeys, intentionally or as hitchhikers. Some of these species establish populations in regions to which they could not have spread without human assistance, and where they are considered to be non indigenous species (NIS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Avian thermoregulation across age and seasons

    Författare :Fredrik Andreasson; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ambient temperature; body temperature; Cyanistes caeruleus; energy expenditure; hypothermia; life-history theory; metabolic rate; Parus major; thermoregulation; trade-off; winter ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Animals constantly need to relate to prevailing environmental conditions and regulate their body temperature accordingly. Body temperature regulation in birds and mammals is inherently linked to energy expenditure and, thus, thermoregulation is a physiological mechanism that could trade-off with other costly processes, with potential long-term fitness consequences.
