1. Extinction in Molecular Clouds : Case of Barnard 335
Sammanfattning : The Bok globule B335 is a small molecular cloud in the solar neighbourhood near the galactic plane. The aim for this three-paper-study is to construct and analyze the extinction for this globule. The method we apply is to use the light from field stars behind the cloud in broadband filters ranging from UV to the mid-infrared. LÄS MER
2. Radioluminescence : A simple model for fluorescent layers
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to present a simple model for the radiation to light conversion processes in fluorescent layers as an aid in future developments and applications. Optimisation between sensitivity and spatial resolution for fluorescent layers in digital radiology is a delicate task where the extrinsic efficiency for various phosphors needs to be established for varying parameters. 3. Structured Laser Illumination Planar Imaging SLIPI Applications for Spray Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Laser sheet imaging, also known as planar laser imaging, is one of the most versatile optical imaging techniques known and is frequently applied in several different domains. It furthermore constitutes the basis for a variety of other 2D methods, in turn allowing visualization of e.g. velocity, particle size, species concentration and temperature. LÄS MER
4. Empirical and theoretical studies of population trends and extinction risks
Sammanfattning : Empirical and theoretical approaches are needed to solve the current problem of increased extinction risk for many species. Thus, this thesis focuses on: (1) ways to estimate population trends for a large number of species, and (2) a predictive framework for identifying vulnerable populations from species traits or life history traits to allow for more proactive conservation actions. 5. Design, fabrication and characterization of plasmonic components based on silicon nanowire platform
Sammanfattning : Optical interconnects based on CMOS compatible photonic integrated circuits are regarded as a promising technique to tackle the issues traditional electronics faces, such as limited bandwidth, latency, vast energy consumption and so on. In recent years, plasmonic integrated components have gained great attentions due to the properties of nano-scale confinement, which may potentially bridge the size mismatch between photonic and electronic circuits.
