  1. 1. Levels of brominated flame retardants in humans and their environment : occupational and home exposure

    Författare :Marie Karlsson; Bert van Bavel; Bo Strandberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; plasma; air; dust; Northern fulmar; egg; household; occupational exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Plasma from workers at an electronic dismantling plant were analysed for tri- to heptaBDEs (brominated diphenyl ethers), during 18 months. The different exposed groups showed concentrations ranging from 0.06to 2.8 ng g-1 (l. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Setting occupational exposure limits : Practices and outcomes of toxicological risk assessment

    Författare :Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Alan Boobis; Michael Gilek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Assessment Factor; DNEL; Euroepan Union; Occupational Exposure Limit; REACH; Risk Assessment; Regulatory Toxicology; SCOEL; Uncertainty Factor; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The main objective of this thesis is to study risk assessment practices in the setting of OEL in order to produce knowledge that will help improve the consistency and transparency of OELs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exposure to some carcinogenic compounds in air, with special reference to wood smoke

    Författare :Pernilla Gustafson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :formaldehyde; acetaldehyde; 1; 3-butadiene; benzene; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; particulate matter; domestic wood burning; exposure assessment; personal exposure; experimental study;

    Sammanfattning : The general population is exposed to air pollutants in both indoor and outdoor air from many different sources, including traffic, biomass burning, industries, cigarette smoking, and certain building materials. Air pollutants can cause a variety of health effects such as cancer and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Lead exposure in indigenous children of the Peruvian Amazon : seeking the hidden source,venturing into participatory research

    Författare :Cynthia Anticona Huaynate; Miguel San Sebastian; Ingvar Bergdahl; Mary Jean Brown; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lead exposure; children; indigenous; Corrientes river; participatory research; Peruvian Amazon; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. In 2006, a Peruvian environmental agency reported the presence of elevated blood lead levels (BLLs) in indigenous communities of the Corrientes river basin. This is a territory in the Peruvian Amazon where oil activity has been associated with serious environmental effects, with impact on an ongoing social conflict. LÄS MER
