  1. 1. For every word has its own shadow: Sunsets, Notes From Underground, Waves

    Författare :Lisa Tan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; affect; becoming; Maurice Blanchot; displacement; dispossession; essay film; experimental video; geological time; liminal; Clarice Lispector; materialism; primordial obscurity; provisional; solitude; Susan Sontag; threshold; transformation; translation; video; video installation; Virginia Woolf;

    Sammanfattning : Liminality permeates this doctoral project's questions: how can an experience of the liminal exist as an artwork? What things and experiences can orient us towards affectivity and states of becoming? Lisa Tan relates such concerns to Clarice Lispector whose writing renders becoming(s) visible. Coupled with Maurice Blanchot and his literary discourse on dispossession and the outside (analogous to becoming), Tan's inquiry is critically engaged inside a moving image practice. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Electronic Labyrinths : An Archaeology of Videographic Cinema

    Författare :Jonathan Rozenkrantz; Trond Lundemo; Malin Wahlberg; Patricia Pisters; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; videographic cinema; video images in films; media archaeology; imaginary media; media imaginaries; live television drama; video therapy; video surveillance; video art; reality TV; mediated memories; media history; YouTube; retro; analogue nostalgia; filmvetenskap; Cinema Studies;

    Sammanfattning : This study scans six decades of film history in search for video images, the imaginaries within which they are framed, and (taking cues from the archaeological methods of Friedrich Kittler and Michel Foucault) their technical, historical, and institutional conditions of existence. The British experimental science fiction film Anti-Clock (Jane Arden and Jack Bond, 1979) revolves around a video device with the capacity to confront subjects with their own repressed memory images. 3. 3. Psycho-physiological reactions to violent video gaming : Experimental studies of heart rate variability, cortisol, sleep and emotional reactions in teenage boys

    Författare :Malena Ivarsson; Lennart Högman; Frank Lindblad; Staffan Janson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; video gaming; media violence; autonomic nervous system; heart rate variability; HPA axis; cortisol; sleep quality; emotional reactions; desensitization; teenagers; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Playing violent video games may provoke aggression. Psycho-physiological methods may provide knowledge about the underlying psychological processes. Most previous studies have been performed in laboratory settings at daytime with adults. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Very low bitrate facial video coding : based on principal component analysis

    Författare :Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Image processing; Video processing; Very low bitrate coding; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces a coding scheme for very low bitrate video coding through the aid of principal component analysis. Principal information of the facial mimic for a person can be extracted and stored in an Eigenspace. Entire video frames of this persons face can then be compressed with the Eigenspace to only a few projection coefficients. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Learning Spatiotemporal Features in Low-Data and Fine-Grained Action Recognition with an Application to Equine Pain Behavior

    Författare :Sofia Broomé; Hedvig Kjellström; Efstratios Gavves; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Equine pain; computer vision for animals; deep learning; deep video models; spatiotemporal features; video understanding; action recognition; frame dependency; video data; end-to-end learning; temporal modeling; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Recognition of pain in animals is important because pain compromises animal welfare and can be a manifestation of disease. This is a difficult task for veterinarians and caretakers, partly because horses, being prey animals, display subtle pain behavior, and because they cannot verbalize their pain. LÄS MER
