  1. 21. Laboratory method for the study of moisture-induced waviness in paper

    Författare :Cecilia Land; Göran Ström; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; method; moisture; paper; paper web; wavelength; waviness; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Paper that is subjected to moisture undergoes dimensional changes. It expands during moistening and shrinks during drying. When the paper is under tension between rollers, the effects are complex since shrinkage and expansion are restricted in the width direction. Waves can then appear on the paper web. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Författare :Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. 23. Impact of Tissue Characteristics on Radio-Frequency Lesioning and Navigation in the Brain : Simulation, experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Johannes Johansson; Karin Wårdell; Hans von Holst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain; Radio frequency ablation; Finite element method; Monte Carlo simulation; light reflectance; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Radio-Frequency (RF) lesioning, or RF ablation, is a method that uses high frequency currents for thermal coagulation of pathological tissue or signal pathways. The current is delivered from an electrode, which also contains a temperature sensor permitting control of the current at a desired target temperature. In the brain, RF lesioning can e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Towards improved motorcycle helmet test methods for head impact protection : Using experimental and numerical methods

    Författare :Shiyang Meng; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Mazdak Ghajari; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Head Injuries; Helmet; Injury Prevention; Motorcycle; Test Standard; Finite Element Method; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Head injury is the leading cause of death and major trauma for users of powered two-wheelers (PTWs). Helmet use can prevent and reduce head injuries when a crash is inevitable. However, today’s motorcycle helmets do not protect equally against all types of head injuries. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Initiation and early crack growth in VHCF of stainless steels : Experimental and theoretical analysis

    Författare :Muhammad Waqas Tofique; Jens Bergstöm; Nils Hallbäck; Thierry Pallin-Luc; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Very High Cycle Fatigue; Stainless steel; Ultrasonic fatigue testing; Crack initiation; Crystallographic crack growth; Distributed Dislocation Dipole Technique; Closed cracks; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanical fatigue is a failure phenomenon that occurs due to repeated application of mechanical loads. Very High Cycle Fatigue (VHCF) is considered as the domain of fatigue life greater than 10 million load cycles. LÄS MER
