11. Ropivacaine and cellular functions : towards an understanding of efficacy in ulcerative colitis
Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the mucosa of the colon and the disease is characterised by periods of active colonic inflammation, intermitted by periods of remission. Local anaesthetics have been shown to exhibit a wide array of anti inflammatory effects in addition to the reversible block of nerve impulse propagation, and some or maybe all of these may explain the reported beneficial effects of local anaesthetics in ulcerative colitis patients. 12. Characteristics and Consequences of Thymic Involution in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Experimental studies in G?i2-deficient and DSS-induced Colitis as well as in IBD patients
Sammanfattning : Characteristics and Consequences of Thymic Involution in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Experimental studies in G?i2-deficient and DSS-induced Colitis as well as in IBD patients Kristina Elgbratt Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Biomedicine, The Sahlgrenska Academy, G?teborg University, G?teborg Sweden Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract, comprising ulcerative colitis and Crohn?s disease. 13. Neuromuscular function in the normal and inflamed colon. An experimental study in rat
Sammanfattning : Neuromuscular function of the longitudinal muscle layer of distal colon was investigated in segments from normal rats and from rats with colitis induced by dextran sulphate sodium (DSS) at 3% for 3 or 7 days or 5% for 7 days. The study was performed in vitro, on spontaneous tone, or after precontraction. LÄS MER
14. Effects of Dietary Fibre and Probiotics on Hindgut Fermentation in Healthy Rats and in Rats with Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Colitis and Colon Cancer
Sammanfattning : The importance of colonic fermentation has been realised during recent years as it has been found to be associated with colonic health and thus the overall health of the individual. The fermentation of dietary fibre and the addition of probiotics can have positive effects on the luminal environment and the colonic microbiota. LÄS MER
15. The role of nitric oxide in the gastrointestinal tract
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important second messenger involved in the regulation of a multitude of mechanisms in the body, such as neurotransmission, smooth muscle contractility, host defense and immune regulation. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic disorders affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract with unknown etiology. LÄS MER
