  1. 1. CCK-dependent pancreatic regulation and pancreatic functional impact on growth in young pigs

    Författare :Sofia Rengman; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pancreatin; pig; exocrine pancreatic insufficiency; pancreatic duct ligation; insulin; entero-pancreatic reflex; CCK-receptors; pentagastrin; Exocrine pancreas; cholecystokinin;

    Sammanfattning : The exocrine pancreas is mainly regulated via neuro-hormonal pathways. CCK-dependent regulatory pathways and CCK-receptor subtype involved seem to differ between mammalian species. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical consequences of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency

    Författare :Aleksandra Hedström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is characterized by a chronic inflammation with fibrosis and irreversible morphological changes that can result in permanent structural changes with a loss of exocrine and endocrine pancreas function. Exocrine dysfunction leads to reduced production of pancreatic digestive enzymes which is the reason of maldigestion and malabsorption of ingested nutrients like fats, microelements, vitamins and proteins which can lead to osteopathy. 3. 3. The role of exocrine pancreas for feed intake and growth. Studies in a model with exocrine pancreatic insufficient young pigs

    Författare :Olexandr Fedkiv; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exocrine pancreatic insufficiency; pigs; pancreatic duct ligation; adaptation;

    Sammanfattning : Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), resulting from disease (e.g. cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis) or surgery (e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of Pancreatic Surgery : Quality of Life, Cost-effectiveness and Postoperative Results

    Författare :Karin Johansen; Bergthor Björnsson; Per Sandström; Linda Lundgren; Jacob Freedman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic surgery; Minimally invasive surgical procedures; Octogenarians; Surgical outcome; Quality of life; Cost-effectiveness analysis; Qualitative research;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND  Pancreatic operations are large procedures with high rates of complications and other potentially impactful consequences such as diabetes and pancreatic exocrine insufficiency. Due to this, and due to the fact that the operations are often occasioned by periampullary tumours with a poor prognosis, it is important to evaluate how the operations affect patients in terms of postoperative results and quality of life. 5. 5. LXR and aromatase knock-out mice : animal models providing insight into human diseases

    Författare :Hyun-Jin Kim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In our characterization of mouse strains carrying mutations in nuclear receptor and aromatase genes we have found phenotypes which resemble four human diseases: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Sjögren s syndrome (SS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The work in this thesis was designed to understand the roles of LXRalpha, LXRbeta and aromatase in development of these diseases and to investigate whether these animal models help us (1) to understand the etiology of the corresponding human diseases and (2) to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of these diseases.
