21. Nitric oxide and the lung : effects of spaceflight and hypergravity
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signal molecule in the body, in particular in the cardiovascular system. This highly reactive molecule is difficult to detect in tissues, but in gas-filled cavities such as the airways it can be detected in part per billion amounts. LÄS MER
22. Remote Ischemic Preconditioning and its Effects on the Respiratory System
Sammanfattning : Mechanical ventilation in itself can lead to pulmonary damage, and one-lung ventilation (OLV), necessary for thoracic surgery, accentuates this injury. Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIP) is a potential tool to reduce lung injury after mechanical ventilation, including OLV. However, current data on pulmonary RIP-effects are contradictory. LÄS MER
23. MEMS-based electrochemical gas sensors and wafer-level methods
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes novel microel ectromechanical system (MEMS) based electrochemical gas sensors and methods of fabrication. This thesis presents the research in two parts. In the first part, a method to handle a thin silicon wafer using an electrochemically active adhesive is described. LÄS MER
24. Optimizing and evaluation of a methacholine provocation test : with application in occupational research
Sammanfattning : We have developed a methacholine provocation method, which detects bronchial responsiveness in more than 80% of healthy subjects. The method enables us to detect differences in bronchial responsiveness within the normal range. With this method FEV1 and Gaw had similar sensitivity in detecting small differences in bronchial responsiveness. LÄS MER
25. Extracellular Matrix Alterations in Patients with Different Phenotypes of Asthma
Sammanfattning : AbstractAsthma is a chronic disease that affects approximately 300 million people worldwide, and the prevalence is increasing. It has become clear that asthma is a highly heterogeneous disease, with overlapping symptoms but with diverse immunopathology and clinical phenotypes. LÄS MER
