11. Exkludering av invandrare i stadspolitiken : makt och maktlöshet i Örebro 1980-2000
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to analyse power structures and processes of exclusion between Swedes and immigrants in Örebro. The study applies a monopolistic approach to show that Swedes exclude immigrants to maintain a dominant power position. Exclusion is understood as a process resulting from asymmetric power relations. 12. Turning Privilege Into Merit : Elite Schooling, Identity, and the Reproduction of Meritocratic Belief
Sammanfattning : Previous research on meritocratic ideology and elite adolescent identity has mainly approached it from the outside, understanding meritocratic identity as a rhetorical cover to justify privilege. Through a frame analytic approach this study nurtures a phenomenological insider perspective, exploring through a one-year ethnography how adolescents at an elite high school experience, negotiate and perform identity in the tension between the school’s institutional definition of identity and their everyday life as young adults. 13. Möten med motstånd : kultur, klass, kropp på vårdcentralen
Sammanfattning : This dissertaton is about a health care centre in Malmö, Sweden, and how the personnel reacted towards and created an understanding of a specific group of patients. Focus is on the encounter between the staff and the patients, who visited the health care centre regularly due to bodily pain and feelings of anxiety and were described by the medical staff as troublesome, complicated and difficult to handle. Sammanfattning : This dissertation is based on two research projects, both of which are linked to concepts such as exclusion, marginalisation and other related themes. CASE, the project that forms the principal basis for the dissertation, is a comparative study of “social exclusion” in seven European countries whose objective has been to illuminate those situations in people’s lives that involve difficulties and that may or may not have been resolved satisfactorily. Sammanfattning : This thesis problematizes values education and governed inclusion from the standpoint of experiences made by upper secondary students with severe physical disabilities. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of value education empirically, by examining how students with physical disabilities experience the process of integration into different communities of regular education.
