  1. 1. Protective factors in childhood allergy related to diet and lifestyle

    Författare :Helen Rosenlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Allergy; antibiotics; antipyretics; asthma; biodynamic; diet; eczema; fruits; measles infection; measles vaccination; multivitamins; rhinitis; sensitization; vegetables;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of allergic disease among children has increased markedly during several decades. The reasons behind the increase remain unclear, but lifestyle and environmental factors associated with the Western way of living seem to be of importance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies in childhood celiac disease

    Författare :Daniel Agardh; Pediatrisk endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; serologi; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Immunology; serology; transplantation; villous atrophy; T cells; serological marker; screening; intestinal mucosa; children; celiac disease; CD25; CD8; CD4; autoantibodies; B cells; gluten-free diet; autoimmunity;

    Sammanfattning : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Discovery and management of child allergy from the parent perspective

    Författare :Nina Gunnarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Allergy; exclusion diet; illness behaviour; help-seeking behaviour; care-givers strategies; narratives;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis is to extend the knowledge and deepen the understanding of care-givers management of child allergy, especially of suspected food allergy. This is done by describing and exploring how parents with children who have exclusion diets at school discover and responds to their children’s allergy-related problems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The enterocyte in small intestinal adaption : an experimental and clinicopathological study with special reference to the ultrastructure of the brush border

    Författare :Roger Stenling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Scanning electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The small intestine mucosa is known to be able to adapt itself to several kinds of both physiological and pathological conditions. The adaptive patterns of the structure of the enterocytes, particularly their apical surface (brush border), were studied in three models: (1) in rats, subjected to antrectomy or antral exclusion, combined with gastroduodenostomy and gastrojejunostomy; (2) in rats with alloxan diabetes; (3) in children with coeliac disease; a) in its active phase; b) after long-term treatment with gluten-free diets; c) after long-term challenge with dietary gluten following treatment; d) after short-term elimination of dietary gluten. 5. 5. Interspecific Interactions between Native Brown Trout and Invasive Brook Trout: Insights into Behaviour and Morphology

    Författare :Magnus L. Wallerius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Invasive species; Fish; Competition; Foraging; Management;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of non-native species represents a global threat to ecosystems and biodiversity. In Europe, the introduction of the invasive brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) has led to species displacement and local extinction of native brown trout (Salmo trutta) populations. LÄS MER
