11. Effects of deep excavations in soft clay on the immediate sourroundings-Analysis of the possibility to predict deformations and reactions against the retaining system
Sammanfattning : When excavating in an urban environment, the evaluation of the magnitude and distribution of ground movements is an important part of the design process, since excessive movements can damage adjacent buildings and utilities. In order to minimize movement of the surrounding soil, a retaining wall support system is used for deep excavations to provide lateral support. LÄS MER
12. Damaged rock zone around excavation boundaries and its interaction with shotcrete
Sammanfattning : When an excavation is carried out in a body of rock, the mechanical, hydraulic and physical properties of the rock surrounding the excavation will be disturbed. The zone in which these occur is called the Excavation Disturbed Zone (EDZ) and must be represented in the quantitative assessment of the near-field host rock. LÄS MER

14. Ground Improvement by Dry Deep Mixing Lime-Cement Column Panels as Excavation Support
Sammanfattning : Many urban areas near the coastal regions of Sweden are characterized by post-glacial clay deposits with very low undrained shear strength and high compressibility. Column type ground improvement by the Deep Mixing, DM, method using a binder mixture of lime and cement is commonly used in areas with poor soil conditions due to its cost-effectiveness, predominantly for settlement reduction and to improve the stability of embankments. 15. On the small strain stiffness of some Scandinavian clays and impact on deep excavation
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results of a comprehensive study on the small strain stiffness of several Swedish clays and its tentative effect on the design of retaining structures. A combination of field measurement techniques, seismic dilatometer and surface seismics, are complemented with bender element testing of the retrieved samples. LÄS MER
