16. Astrocytes as Cellular Vehicles in Ex Vivo Gene Therapy Studies to the Rat Brain
Sammanfattning : Neurodegenerative disorders are characterized by a progressive cell-death in the brain, and loss of different functions in the patient. Today, there are no cures for any of the various diseases. Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder with a prevalence of 0. LÄS MER
17. Studies of in vivo prostate amyloidosis and autoimmune responses towards amyloid structures in neurodegeneration
Sammanfattning : By using multidisciplinary analysis of CA inclusions in prostate glands of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, we have revealed that their major components are the amyloid forms of S100A8 and S100A9 proteins associated with numerous inflammatory conditions and types of cancer. We have demonstrated that material closely resembling CA can be produced from S100A8/A9 in vitro and shows the characters of amyloids. LÄS MER
18. RF-microwave sensor development for cell and human in vitro and ex vivo monitoring
Sammanfattning : In this research new RF/microwave-based sensor solutions were developed for the monitoring of biological cells and human beings to obtain a better understanding of their activity or state in a quick, cheap, easy and continuous way. The effect of different substances on cell behaviour can be monitored by measuring the electrical environment where changes are observed as cells react to a stimulus. LÄS MER
19. Aspects on the use of slowly degradable mesh in inguinal hernia surgery
Sammanfattning : Background: Synthetic non-degradable mesh used in inguinal hernia surgery can cause chronic inflammation, which in turn can lead to chronic post-operative pain (CPP). Theoretically, a degradable mesh could reduce the risk of chronic pain. LÄS MER
20. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors : Clinical Studies, Novel Serum Biomarkers and Sensitivity to Cytotoxic and Targeted Agents
Sammanfattning : Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors (SI-NETs) are indolent neoplasms with an increasing annual incidence of approximately 1/100 000 people. They are often diagnosed at a late stage, restricting treatment efficacy. LÄS MER
