1. Dynamic changes in T cell compartments and new approaches in evaluating DSS induced and Gai2 deficient colitis
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the immunopathology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The first aim was to elucidate how the thymus and the gut epithelium were affected by colitis. The second aim was to investigate new ways of assessing and monitoring colitis. LÄS MER
2. The therapeutic potential of ex vivo expanded natural killer (NK) cells for immunotherapy of cancer
Sammanfattning : Cell and gene therapy of cancers has received much attention in the past decade. A number of applications of cancer treatment have been developed and used. One of the recent applications is immunotherapy of tumours with human natural killer (NK) cells. LÄS MER
3. Immunological insights into equine responses against Strongylus vulgaris : Ex vivo studies using equine intestinal organoids and blood mononuclear cells
Sammanfattning : Anthelminthic drugs have controlled parasitic infections in veterinary species for decades, but today this use is questioned due to concerns about antimicrobial resistance. For most microorganisms, a feasible alternative is vaccination but for parasites, commercial vaccines are scarce. LÄS MER
4. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 5. Mechanisms of Ischemic Brain Injury- studies in murine hippocampal slice cultures
Sammanfattning : Cerebral ischemia is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the western world. Even though much effort has been put into research and development of effective drugs against ischemic damage there is to date no effective pharmacological brain protective treatment. LÄS MER
