11. Children As Eyewitnesses : Memory recall and face recognition
Sammanfattning : Through centuries, witnesses to crimes have played an important role for the police to get a conviction of the culprit. This dissertation examined how accurate children are as witnesses of events and when participating in lineups. In Study 1, participants were tested with free recall and focussed questions. LÄS MER
12. Memory Distortions Induced by Fluency : Behavioural and Electrophysiological Investigations
Sammanfattning : The investigation of memory distortions provides insights into how memory normally works. Adopting a cognitive neuroscience perspective, the present thesis aimed at investigating memory distortions and the neural correlates of processes contributing to successful control of memory interference in healthy participants. 13. Algorithms for synchronization and consistency in concurrent system services
Sammanfattning : Synchronization, consistency and scalability are important issues in the design of concurrent computer system services. In this thesis we study the application of optimistic and scalable methods in concurrent system services. LÄS MER
14. Participating in a Story: Exploring Audience Cognition
Sammanfattning : Stories that the audience can influence (such as computer games and other interactive multimedia), in contrast to 'traditional' stories (such as books and cinema), present a challenge to fields which take narrative (story) as their study object. What is the difference between these two kinds of stories? Earlier theories have focused on differences in media, structure, or the audience's physical actions. LÄS MER
15. Brain activity associated with episodic memory : similarities and differences between encoding and retrieval
Sammanfattning : Understanding the mnemonic functions of the brain has been extensively facilitated by the development of functional neuroimaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The present thesis aims at investigating the neural mechanisms underlying memory for personally experienced events (episodic memory), using PET. LÄS MER
