1. Improved diagnosis and prediction of community-acquired pneumonia
Sammanfattning : Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although there is wide variation in the microbial etiology, CAP may manifest with similar symptoms, making institution of proper treatment challenging. LÄS MER
2. Streptococcus pneumoniae : epidemiological, clinical and serological studies
Sammanfattning : A retrospective study of invasive pneumococcal disease in patients from Greater Göteborg in 1964- 1980 identified 125 cases of meningitis, 305 of pneumonia, 61 of septicemia with unknown focus, and 17 with other manifestations, all verified by cultures from normally sterile body fluids. The incidence was several times higher in infants and in the elderly than in any other age-group. LÄS MER
3. SLPI and soluble BTLA as immunological markers in severe bacterial infections
Sammanfattning : Clinical presentation, and outcome of infections are affected by host-, and etiology- (focus of infection and pathogen) related factors. The immune response is controlled by a network of regulating pathways. LÄS MER
4. Diagnostic methods for bacterial etiology in adult community-acquired pneumonia
Sammanfattning : The etiologic agent is often unidentified in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Development of new diagnostic methods has been encouraged. We aimed to develop a multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay for common bacterial pathogens and evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of this assay and of respiratory culture in CAP. LÄS MER
5. Diagnostic and clinical aspects of invasive fungal disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Sammanfattning : In paper I, 99 patients who received reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) were followed with weekly fungal PCR during the first 100 days after HSCT. Patients with a positive fungal PCR result were randomized to either treatment with liposomal amphotericin B or no treatment. LÄS MER
