    Sammanfattning : DISSERTATION ABSTRACT Hasselberg, Linda. Interactions between cytochrome P450 and estrogenic compounds in fish. Department of Zoophysiology, Göteborg University, Box 463, SE-405 30 Göteborg, Sweden Contamination by various pollutions is an environmental concern. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evaluation of Biomarker Responses in Fish : with Special Emphasis on Gill EROD Activity

    Författare :Carin Andersson; Jan Örberg; Björn Brunström; Lars Förlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; three-spined stickleback; biomarker; EROD; ethynylestradiol; gill; vitellogenin; spiggin; CYP1A inducers; humic substances; sperm quality; biomonitoring; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many chemicals present in the aquatic environment can interfere with physiological functions in fish. Exposure to chemicals can be revealed by the use of biomarkers. Induction of 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity is a commonly used biomarker for exposure to CYP1A inducers such as dioxins and polyaromatic hyrdrocarbons. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Endocrine Disruption in Amphibians : Developmental Effects of Ethynylestradiol and Clotrimazole on the Reproductive System

    Författare :Irina Gyllenhammar; Cecilia Berg; Ingvar Brandt; Lena Holm; Joakim Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Test system; Xenopus tropicalis; Rana temporaria; sex ratio; sex differentiation; fertility; aromatase; ovary; testis; oviduct; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amphibian populations are declining world-wide and one of the suggested reasons is environmental pollutants. Studies of long-term effects on the reproductive system in frogs following larval exposure to environmental pollutants are scarce. It is therefore important to develop methods to study developmental reproductive toxicity in amphibians. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Environmental pollutants and the reproductive system in birds : Developmental effects of estrogenic compounds

    Författare :Cecilia Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Avian embryo; test system; xeno-estrogen; endocrine disruption; reproductive organ differentiation; oviduct; testis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : A number of environmental pollutants have been shown to mimick the action of the female sex hormone estrogen and are, therefore, suspected to be responsible for reproductive abnormalities seen in wildlife. Test systems which can be used in hazard and risk assessment of chemicals with estrogenic effects are consequently needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Roles of ERα and ERβ in Normal and Disrupted Sex Differentiation in Japanese Quail

    Författare :Anna Mattsson; Björn Brunström; Krister Halldin; Lena Sahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; sex differentiation; estrogen receptor; sexual behavior; endocrine disruption; Japanese quail; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to xenoestrogens during development has been shown to impair sexual differentiation in various species. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate the respective roles of the two estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ in normal and disrupted differentiation of sex organs and copulatory behavior in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica).
