  1. 1. Techno-economic evaluation of integrated lignocellulosic ethanol production

    Författare :Elisabeth Joelsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; distillers dried grain with solubles; biorefinery; modelling; Aspen Plus; biogas; logging residues; spruce; wheat straw; wheat grain; heat; integration; pinch analysis; techno-economic evaluation; first generation; second generation; Ethanol; Lignocellulosic material;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden has claimed that it wants to have a fossil-free vehicle fleet in 2030 as a milestone of its ambitious goal for 2050 to be a country with a sustainable and resource-efficient energy supply without any net GHG emissions. Production of bioethanol from plant materials is one potential method of meeting this goal. LÄS MER

  2. 2. At the crossroads of bioenergy and agriculture in developing countries : Challenges and prospects for fossil fuels replacement and CO2 abatement in the case of Thailand

    Författare :Wathanyu Amatayakul; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; bioenergy plantations; land-use decision; developing countries; CO2 abatement; ethanol program; Thailand; wood crops; CDM;

    Sammanfattning : Studies estimate that the potential contribution of biomass to the global primary energy supply from cultivation of crops for energy is substantial in the long term, from about 50 to 240 EJ/year in 2050. Most of this biomass is projected to come from cultivation in developing countries. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF: Process Development through Experiments and Simulations

    Författare :Per Sassner; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process simulation; Energy efficiency; SSF; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Lignocellulose; Steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Process economics; Flow-sheeting;

    Sammanfattning : Lignocellulosic materials, such as wood, waste products from the forestry industry, agricultural residues and herbaceous crops, serve as an abundant and comparatively cheap feedstock with the potential to be used for large-scale ethanol production. However, the complex structure of lignocellulosic materials, the presence of various hexose and pentose sugars in hemicellulose, and the presence of various compounds that inhibit the fermenting organism constitute physical barriers that add to the production cost and make full-scale introduction economically more risky. 4. 4. Modeling of Hindered Diffusion in Gels

    Författare :Jan Gutenwik; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; effective diffusion coefficient; pore size distribution; obstruction; immobilization; modeling; adsorption kinetics; hindered diffusion; simulation program; proteins; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hindered diffusion occurs in the most different processes, as has been described in this thesis. It is very important to have an understanding of the influence of hindered diffusion on the mass transfer rate, especially when competing rate processes are acting simultaneously. LÄS MER

  5. 5. District Heating-driven Membrane Distillation for Water Purification in Industrial Applications

    Författare :Daniel Minilu Woldemariam; Andrew Martin; Massimo Santarelli; Wojciech Kujawski; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Membrane Distillation; District Heating; Wastewater Purification; Heat demand; Technoeconomy; Membrandestillation; Fjärrvärme; Avloppsvattenrening; Värme-behov; Teknoekonomi; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Domestic and industrial water demands are growing globally due to population growth and rapid economic development, placing increasing strains on water resources. Wastewater effluents generated from these and other activities impact the environment and are thus subject to tightening regulation. LÄS MER
