  1. 1. Regulation of Ovarian Aromatase: Studies by Aromatase Assays in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Dmitrijus Kirilovas; Mats Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; aromatase; human; granulosa cells; 11C-vorozole; active site; allosteric configuration; in vitro; in vivo; PET; androgens; rat; estrous cycle.; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : An in vitro method was developed for measuring aromatase, based on binding of competitive aromatase inhibitor [11C]vorozole to the active site of the enzyme. [11C]Vorozole displayed high, specific binding in vitro to human placenta and human granulosa cells (GC), both fresh and frozen/thawed cells, provided correct procedures were used. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sex differences in acute and chronic experimental pain models

    Författare :Lili Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :estrogen;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in response to noxious stimuli and in the development of chronic pain have been increasingly recognized and studied in humans and laboratory animals. In the clinic, extensive evidence indicates that there are a large number of chronic pain conditions that have higher prevalence in women than in men and some of these conditions, such as migraine and temporomandibular pain disorder, are also affected by the menstrual cycle. 3. 3. New sensitive and specific methods for sex steroid measurements in rodent serum and tissues

    Författare :Maria E. Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex steroids; mass spectrometry; rodents;

    Sammanfattning : Accurate measurement of sex steroids (androgens, estrogens, and progesterone) is essential in research and clinical settings for common diseases including osteoporosis, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Sex steroids are not only produced in the gonads and adrenals but may also be locally synthesized in peripheral target tissues. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Behavioral effects of female sex steroid hormones : models of PMS and PMDD in Wistar rats

    Författare :Magnus Löfgren; Torbjörn Bäckström; Inga-Maj Johansson; Per Södersten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; PMS; PMDD; rats; progesterone; estradiol; behavior; individual response; stress interaction; tolerance; withdrawal; learning and memory; anxiety.; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Psychology; Psykologi; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Animal models can be used to mimic human conditions of psychopathology, and also as pre-clinical models to evaluate candidate drugs. With hormonal treatment it is possible to produce behavior in the rat which corresponds to the mental symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the mouse striatum

    Författare :Sietske Schotanus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The striatum is the major input nucleus of the basal ganglia and can be subdivided into a dorsal part and a ventral part that is also named nucleus accumbens (NAc). The dorsal part is involved in motor control and habit learning whereas the ventral part is mostly associated with rewardmotivated behaviors. LÄS MER
