1. Exploiting Prior Information in Parametric Estimation Problems for Multi-Channel Signal Processing Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses a number of problems all related to parameter estimation in sensor array processing. The unifying theme is that some of these parameters are known before the measurements are acquired. LÄS MER
2. Model Reduction and Parameter Estimation for Diffusion Systems
Sammanfattning : Diffusion is a phenomenon in which particles move from regions of higher density to regions of lower density. Many physical systems, in fields as diverse as plant biology and finance, are known to involve diffusion phenomena. Typically, diffusion systems are modeled by partial differential equations (PDEs), which include certain parameters. LÄS MER
3. The Origin-Destination Matrix Estimation Problem : Analysis and Computations
Sammanfattning : For most kind of analyses in the field of traffic planning, there is a need for origin--destination (OD) matrices, which specify the travel demands between the origin and destination nodes in the network. This thesis concerns the OD-matrix estimation problem, that is, the calculation of OD-matrices using observed link flows. LÄS MER
4. Estimation and detection of transmission line characteristics in the copper access network
Sammanfattning : The copper access-network operators face the challenge of developing and maintaining cost-effective digital subscriber line (DSL) services that are competitive to other broadband access technologies. The way forward is dictated by the demand of ever increasing data rates on the twisted-pair copper lines. LÄS MER
5. EM Estimation in Phase Type Models
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four articles whose theme in common is the class of phase type distributions. In the first article an EM algorithm is presented to estimate the parameters of a phase type distribution of fixed order. Also, it is shown that the algorithm can be used to approximate other continuous distributions by phase type distributions. LÄS MER
