    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) regulates nutrient uptake, secretes hormones and has a crucial gut flora and enteric nervous system. Of relevance for these functions are the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and the solute carriers (SLCs). LÄS MER

  2. 2. On diet in ankylosing spondylitis

    Författare :Björn Sundström; Solveig Wållberg-Jonsson; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diet; ankylosing spondylitits; omega-3; cardiovascular; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the role of diet in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Patients were examined in: i) a postal questionnaire survey of dietary habits and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms; ii) a study on biomarkers of diet and disease activity; iii) a comparison of cardiovascular risk factors with the general population using data from the Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP), and; iv) a 21-week omega-3 fatty acid supplementation study regarding the effects on disease activity. 3. 3. Novel lipid derivatives for health benefits : synthesis, analysis and effects in diet-induced obese mice

    Författare :Samanthi Madawala; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a public health concern and requires effective management with multiple approaches. Dietary supplements of bioactive compounds that can improve fatty acid oxidation and thermogenesis are currently in focus to develop anti-obese food ingredients/nutraceuticals without side-effects. 4. 4. Determinants and clinical implications of circulating fatty acids in individuals with chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Xiaoyan Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic kidney disease;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a high risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Adding to traditional risk factors, e.g., Framingham risk factors, novel risk factors including inflammation, insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are being detected in patients with advanced CKD. 5. 5. Pathways linking atherosclerosis to aortic stenosis

    Författare :Oscar Plunde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death world-wide where atherosclerosis is the main culprit and aortic valve disease accounts about two percent of all CVD deaths. Atherosclerosis is a lipid and inflammation driven disease that share many features with aortic valve stenosis (AVS). LÄS MER
