1. Wireless esophageal PH monitoring. Clinical evaluation of a new technique
Sammanfattning : Esophageal pH monitoring is important in the clinical management of patients with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and in research aiming to clarify the mechanisms involved in the development of GERD complications. Catheter-based techniques for pH recording are uncomfortable, not well tolerated by all patients and cannot reliably measure acid exposure in the most distal esophagus the region most prone to reflux-induced complications. 2. Hirschsprung´s Disease & Gastroesophageal Reflux. Aspects on Two Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders in Childhood
Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal motility disorders are common in childhood and in this thesis we look at two of them, i.e. Hirschsprung´s Disease (HD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in five different studies. LÄS MER
3. Laryngopharyngeal reflux - development and refinement of diagnostic tools
Sammanfattning : Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), characterized by symptoms of chronic cough, hoarseness, throat clearing, globus, laryngospasm, throat pain and excessive mucus has in recent years been recognized as an extra-esophageal manifestation of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). There are still many questions to be answered regarding how to diagnose the LPR disease and how to effectively select patients that may benefit from treatment. LÄS MER
4. Gastroesephageal reflux and related motility disorders after esophageal atresia : a clinical study
Sammanfattning : The most common congenital malformation of the esophagus is esophageal atresia (EA) with or without tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). Successful repair of EA does not ensure normal esophageal function. Disturbed esophageal motility and gastroesophageal reflux (GER) are often detected after repair of EA. LÄS MER
5. The Columnar Lined Esophagus. Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects
Sammanfattning : There is a persisting controversy concerning the definition, etiology and pathogenesis of Barrett's esophagus. The dramatic and parallel increase in the incidence of esophageal and junctional adenocarcinoma over the past decades justifies an evaluation of the pathophysiology of premalignant metaplastic changes of the esophagus and the gastroesophageal junction.
