1. Mathematical Models of Molecular Evolution
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with mathematical models of Darwinian evolution in populations of simple living organisms. We study models which describe how the representation of different gene sequences in the population is affected by the fundamental forces of evolutionary processes, such as selection pressure, the mutation rate and the time dynamics of the underlying fitness landscape. 2. Sparse Codes on Graphs with Convolutional Code Constraints
Sammanfattning : Modern coding theory is based on the foundation of the sparse codes on graphs, such as the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, and the turbo-like codes (TCs) with component convolutional codes. The success of the LDPC codes and the TCs lies in their ability to perform low-complexity iterative message passing decoding procedures. LÄS MER
3. Spatially Coupled Turbo-Like Codes
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on proposing and analyzing a powerful class of codes on graphs---with trellis constraints---that can simultaneously approach capacity and achieve very low error floor. In particular, we propose the concept of spatial coupling for turbo-like code (SC-TC) ensembles and investigate the impact of coupling on the performance of these codes. LÄS MER
4. Reducing Memory Traffic with Approximate Compression
Sammanfattning : Memory bandwidth is a critical resource in modern systems and has an increasing demand. The large number of on-chip cores and specialized accelerators improves the potential processing throughput but also calls for higher data rates. In addition, new emerging data-intensive applications further increase memory traffic. LÄS MER
5. Digital block transmission and time-of-flight estimation : receiver design and performance analysis
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with signal processing aspects of digital block transmission and time-of-flight estimation. Receivers are derived and analysed based on the assumption that the received signals have been corrupted with additive Gaussian noise and linear distortion. LÄS MER
