2. Respiratory Tract Infections: Aspects of Aetiology, Virulence, and Communicable Disease Control
Sammanfattning : The paediatric nasopharyngeal flora is regarded as the largest reservoir for Streptococcus pneumoniae, and the carrier state is always antecedent to infection and a prerequisite for dispersion of these bacteria. Pneumococci are the predominant aetiology of bacterial respiratory tract infections and a major cause of morbidity and mortality, in the most severe cases due to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD; mainly sepsis and meningitis). 3. Pharmacological therapy of Helicobacter pylori infection
Sammanfattning : The discovery of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) opened the doors to new insight and therapy for peptic ulcer disease. Earlier eradication treatment modalities based on bismuth compounds, with or without additional antimicrobials, were not well accepted mainly because of the, at least hypothetical, risks for neurological and/or renal side effects. 5. Tumor gene therapy using Semliki forest virus replicons
Sammanfattning : A major challenge in cancer research is to design effective vaccines that can break immunological tolerance to tumor antigens. Over the past ten years several immunotherapeutic strategies aimed at modulating the patient's immune response to fight cancer have been tested in clinical trials. LÄS MER
