6. Oral mucosa keratinocytes and their exosomes for epithelial tissue regeneration
Sammanfattning : Early tumors, including high grade dysplasia and intramucosal invasive cancer, of the esophagus can today be removed using endoscopic resection, often using a technique called endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). This treatment is better tolerated and has considerably less mortality and morbidity compared to conventional, more invasive surgery, which usually entails esophagectomy. LÄS MER
7. Models of alveolar remodeling in chronic lung disease
Sammanfattning : Lung function is highly dependent on the structure of the lung parenchyma. Remodeling of the alveolar compartment is a central part of the pathology of chronic lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). LÄS MER
8. Alcohol and inflammation : a study of effects of ethanol on endothelial and epithelial cell functions
Sammanfattning : Although short–term alcohol drinking causes euphoric and stress relieving effects, alcohol abuse is a major risk factor for neurobehavioural, liver and muscle injury as well as reduced host defence with enhanced susceptibility to bacterial infections. Although such reductions also suggest potential use as an anti-inflammatory drug, well known side effects of ethanol limits its clinical use. LÄS MER
9. Differential expression pattern of CEACAM1 isoforms in polarized epithelial cells : it's regulation and some functional consequences
Sammanfattning : The cell adhesion molecule CEACAM1 is expressed in epithelia, small vessel endothelia and leukocytes as two major, co-expressed isoforms, CEACAM1-L and CEACAM1-S, which differ in their cytoplasmic domains. CEACAM1 has been found both in cell-cell contact areas and on apical surfaces of polarized epithelial cells. LÄS MER
10. Recombinant spider silk for biomedical applications - from functionalizing surfaces of synthetic materials to in vitro modelling of tissues
Sammanfattning : Spider silk is a natural protein-based material known for its medicinal use and remarkable mechanical properties. Structures made thereof are both strong and elastic and have been shown to be favorable matrices for tissue engineering. LÄS MER
