  1. 1. Decision Analysis in Fire Safety Engineering - Analysing Investments in Fire Safety

    Författare :Henrik Tehler; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Safety technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; investment appraisal; epistemic uncertainties; fire safety; Decision analysis; risk analysis; Säkerhetsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The application of decision analytical methods to the evaluation of investments in fire safety was investigated, particularly with the aim of being able to suggest a method for analysing a specific investment in fire safety for a specific factory. Attention was directed above all at the handling of cases of large epistemic uncertainty regarding both probabilities and utilities, Bayesian decision theory serving as a basis for the development of the method. 2. 2. On the hosting capacity of distribution networks for solar power

    Författare :Enock Mulenga; Math Bollen; Nicholas Etherden; Luis (Nando) Ochoa; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aleatory; distribution networks; epistemic; hosting capacity; overvoltage; solar power; stochastic; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The future will bring changes in energy production and consumption that will affect the performance of electricity distribution networks. Electric vehicle charging will increase consumption; the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) units will increase production. Both will change the energy flow and affect the power quality. 3. 3. Improving the Dynamic Design Philosophy of High-Speed Railway Bridges Using Reliability-Based Methods

    Författare :Reza Allahvirdizadeh; Raid Karoumi; Andreas Andersson; Christoph Adam; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-speed railway bridges; Bridge dynamics; Running safety; Passenger comfort; Structural reliability; Surrogate models; Active learning; Reliability-based design optimization; Partial safety calibration; Epistemic uncertainties; Höghastighetsjärnvägsbroar; Brodynamik; Trafiksäkerhet; Passagerarkomfort; Konstruktioners tillförlitlighet; Surrogatmodeller; Aktivt lärande; Tillförlitlighetsbaserad optimering; Kalibrering av partialkoefficienter; Epistemiska osäkerheter; Bro- och stålbyggnad; Structural Engineering and Bridges;

    Sammanfattning : Modern railway infrastructures, especially bridges, are exposed to significant vibrations with potential safety implications. In this context, previous studies have shown the inconsistency and inadequacy of some conventional design methods necessitaing them to be improved. The assessment of safety inherently deals with uncertainties. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Probabilistic Stability Analysis of Underground Mine Excavations

    Författare :Musa Adebayo Idris; Tarcísio Celestino; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The creation of underground mine excavation disturbs the original state of the rock mass surrounding the excavation which often leads to instability of the excavation. This poses a threat to the safety of personnel and equipment in and around such excavations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Water and Carbon Balance Modeling: Methods of Uncertainty Analysis

    Författare :John Juston; Per-Erik Jansson; Georg Lindgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Modeling; uncertainty analysis; water balance; carbon balance; GLUE; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : How do additional data of the same and/or different type contribute to reducing model parameter and predictive uncertainties? This was the question addressed with two models – the HBV hydrological water balance model and the ICBM soil carbon balance model – that were used to investigate the usefulness of the Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) method for calibrations and uncertainty analyses.  The GLUE method is based on threshold screening of Monte Carlo simulations using so-called informal likelihood measures and subjective acceptance criterion.
