  1. 1. Role of Endogenous BDNF and NT3 for Synaptic Transmission and Plasticity in the Dentate gyrus

    Författare :Klara Olofsdotter; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hippocampus; dentate gyrus; GABA; glutamate; synaptic transmission; synaptic plasticity; Brain-derived neurotrophic factor; neurotrophin 3; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; electrophysiology; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The neurotrophins, notably brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin 3 (NT3), modulate synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the adult mammalian brain. Recent data suggest that neurotrophins might be mediators of activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neuropeptides and neurotrophic factors in epilepsy: seizure suppressant actions of VEGF, NPY and galanin

    Författare :Litsa Nikitidou; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epilepsy; Gene Therapy; Neuropeptide Y; Y2 receptor; Y5 receptor; Galanin; Encapsulated cell biodelivery; Vascular endothelial growth factor; Flk-1; Hippocampus;

    Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a severe chronic neurological disorder, affecting about 1% of the population. The disease is manifested by spontaneous recurrent seizures, caused by hypersynchronized neuronal activity due to imbalance in the brain between the inhibition and excitation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Clinical expressions of juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations and macular dystrophies: Electrophysiological and genetic studies

    Författare :Louise Eksandh; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; Rod-monochromacy; Stargardt disease; Juvenile X-linked retinoschisis; Spielmeyer-Vogt disease; Best disease; multifocal-ERG; EOG; full-field ERG; Phenotype; genotype;

    Sammanfattning : Hereditary retinal degenerations are the most frequent reason for severe visual handicap among young people in Scandinavia today. In the six papers included in this thesis the phenotypic expressions, with emphasis on the electrophysiological findings, of five different juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations are described. 4. 4. A Glial Role in the Action of Electroconvulsive Therapy

    Författare :Malin Wennström; Enheten för psykiatrisk neuromodulering (PNU); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Psykiatri; klinisk psykologi; psykosomatik; psychosomatics; clinical psychology; Psychiatry; Hippocampus; Depression; Gliogenesis; Electroconvulsive seizures;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the current thesis was to investigate glial responses to electroconvulsive seizures (ECS), an animal model of the fast-acting antidepressant treatment electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Depression, a common and devastating disorder, has in recent years been associated with volumetric changes in prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and amygdala, brain regions known to be implicated in emotional behavior. 5. 5. Drug-related problems in the elderly - Interventions to improve the quality of pharmacotherapy

    Författare :Patrik Midlöv; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medicinsk utbildning; medical training; Allmän medicinsk utövning; elderly; General practice; transfer of information; educational outreach visits; medication errors; drug-related problems;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Elderly people, in particular those residing in nursing homes, often use many drugs. In general elderly patients are at greater risk of experiencing drug-related problems (DRP), as they have multiple diseases, are using many drugs and have changed physiological status. LÄS MER
