16. Intermediate State Stabilisation in Enzyme Catalysis Structural studies of two serine proteases and a photosynthetic reaction centre
Sammanfattning : Enzymes play a key role in every organisms life. They catalyse chemical reactions and may also respond to external stimulus. The reoccurring theme of this thesis is how biologically relevant information can be gleaned from X-ray structures of the enzymes. LÄS MER
17. Towards Classification and Functional Description of Enzymes: A case study of feruloyl esterases
Sammanfattning : The prediction of enzyme functionality from sequence or structure data remains a challenging task that can be best addressed by studying the structure-function relationships determined from previously available information. This thesis work was focused on developing a reliable classification and functional description for the feruloyl esterase (FAE) enzyme family, whose members’ possess both structural and catalytic promiscuity. 18. Molecular Simulation of Enzyme Catalysis and Inhibition
Sammanfattning : The reaction mechanisms for the hemoglobin degrading enzymes in the Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite, plasmepsin II (Plm II) and histo-aspartic protease (HAP), have been analyzed by molecular simulations. The reaction free energy profiles, calculated by the empirical valence bond (EVB) method in combination with molecular dynamics (MD) and free energy perturbation (FEP) simulations are in good agreement with experimental data. 19. Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme : Effects of Smoking and Other Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most common cause of death in Western countries. Smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia are considered as major risk factors. However, the underlying mechanisms by which these factors cause CVDs are not entirely clear. 20. Insulin-Degrading Enzyme : A link between insulin resistance and Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Prior research has demonstrated an elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) among individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Insulin resistance is a potential common link between these conditions, and it is associated with AD due to the insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE), which also degrades amyloid-β (Aβ) in the brain. LÄS MER
